WASHINGTON–Democracy Federal Credit Union hosted its Annual Meeting and 80th Anniversary Celebration in The Great Hall at the Hubert H. Humphrey Building, Washington DC. In attendance were Democracy FCU’s board, members, and staff. The Annual Meeting brings together members and leadership to review the financial cooperative’s business, strategic initiatives, and service to members.
Founded in 1936, Democracy Federal Credit Union said it has continued to survive and thrive because the Credit Union has embraced change and technology, while never sacrificing their commitment to members. In honor of the 80th Anniversary, Democracy FCU launched their Member Bill of Rightsto inform members of the financial freedom they can achieve with Democracy FCU products and services.
The Annual Meeting provided much insight into the technology initiatives and advances made by Democracy FCU. From Online and Mobile Banking to Remote Deposit Capture, Person-to-Person transfers and much more, Democracy FCU is staying ahead of the curve by investing in their 24/7 customer experience via website and advanced mobile applications.
In celebration of their 80th Anniversary, Democracy FCU has partnered with The Hospital for Sick Children Pediatric Center in Washington, DC to help raise funds for children and young adults with complex medical needs. All funds collected from raffle tickets sold at the Branches will be donated to the HSC Pediatric Center to help provide services to children from infancy through age 21.
This year’s Annual Meeting and Anniversary Celebration featured Keynote Speaker Michelle Singletary, Author, Washington Post Columnist, and Financial Empowerment Speaker. Singletary focused on educating attendees on the value of saving, budgeting and taking advantage of the different services and products Democracy FCU offers.
To continue to engage, entertain and educate their members, Democracy FCU invited Chef Cynthia Anderson, owner of Intimate Sentiments, to deliver a presentation on how to prepare quick, healthy meals to save money and time. Then, following a morning of speakers, Democracy FCU encouraged members, staff, and leadership to move to the Zumba beat with Instructor Myriam Seay.
