DAYTON, Ohio–DayMet Credit Union has directly affected the lives of 34 individuals affected by the Memorial Day tornadoes in Dayton through $4,800 in donations. Through member donations, staff and board donations, and a corporate contribution from the credit union, DayMet raised money to assist with the community’s recovery from the Memorial Day tornadoes.
DayMet partnered with Engage City Church (ECC) to present $100 bills to each of the 33 Grafton Kennedy Elementary School teachers. Grafton Kennedy was forced to close its doors due to complete devastation from the tornado.
“These teachers lost everything,” said Zach Clark, SVP-operations at DayMet, “All of their school supplies and belongings were located inside the school when it was ravished by the tornadoes. Many of these supplies are items they bought with their own personal money. This is our way of helping them rebuild.”
ECC requested school supply lists from all teachers within the Northridge Local School District. DayMet is serving as a drop box location and solicit supply donations toward the end of this month.
ECC and DayMet also partnered again to present $1,500 to an individual who has been hosting 13 people in his home due to the tornado devastation. Many of his friends and family lost their homes and he welcomed them into his with open arms.
“We want to reward selfless acts like this,” said Clark. “This is the good stuff. And, we are on a mission to make our community better and stronger.”
The credit union said it is also actively finding ways to assist those of its members affected by the current General Motors strike. DayMet is helping through loan skip-a-payments and strike assistance loans.
