HOUSTON–Cy-Fair FCU, in partnership with the Partin Foundation and the Miller family, announced student recipients of its annual higher education scholarships.
This year, CFFCU awarded scholarships to nine Houston school district high school seniors, including a $3,500 full year tuition to Lone Star College through the Pattie R. Miller Memorial scholarship. Rylie Johnson received the year’s $3,500 Pattie R. Miller Memorial scholarship in addition to funds covering school-related expenses donated by the Miller family.
The $1,500 CFFCU Membership scholarship is reserved for an outstanding student who is a Cy-Fair FCU member or has an immediate family member with an account at the credit union. Haley Winker, a graduate of Cypress Creek High School was this scholarship year’s recipient while CFFCU Community scholarships were awarded to three students who demonstrated Cy-Fair FCU’s values in support of their communities.
Cypress Lakes High School graduate Kathleen Hoang, Cypress Ridge High School graduate Kenny Nguyen and Bridgeland High school graduate Mark Bentick were this year’s $1,500 scholarship award recipients, the credit union said.
Cy-Fair FCU also awarded one student with a $1,500 Bi-Lingual Spanish/English Scholarship, a scholarship offered to students enrolled in English as a Second Language or New America College English Acquisition classes. Qualifying students submitted essays in both English and Spanish. This year’s winner was Emaly Aguilar from Cypress Springs High School.
“The past year was an academic year most of these kids or their parents will never forget. Yet, through it all, they rose above their circumstances and worked hard to graduate. We are frankly inspired by their strength and commitment to persist despite the challenges,” said Cameron Dickey, Cy-Fair FCU president and CEO. “We truly expect incredible accomplishments to emerge from this group of young people.”
CFFCU also partnered with the Partin Foundation to spread the word about their scholarship to the local community. Robert Partin established The Partin Foundation in 2015, in honor of the late Deputy Darren H. Goforth of the Harris County Sheriff’s office, who was killed in the line of duty. Since the inception of the scholarship, the foundation has awarded over $20,000 in college tuition.
Cy-Fair FCU began its scholarship program in 1992 and has now awarded financial assistance to 215 students totaling $229,500.
