Community First Supports Humane Association

APPLETON, Wis.–Community First Credit Union has partnered with the Federal Home Loan Bank of Chicago to provide a $10,000 donation to the Fox Valley Humane Association (FVHA) as part of a COVID-19 relief response to assist nonprofit organizations.

Community First was the recipient of a grant from FHL Bank Chicago’s COVID-19 Relief Program to be awarded to organizations in communities dealing with unexpected expenses due to COVID-19.

Community First President/CEO Cathie Tierney announced the donation today and presented the $10,000 check to Vicki Prey, FVHA executive director.

“Throughout the challenges of COVID-19, FVHA has continued to provide for the care and safety of lost and surrendered animals, coordinating adoptions and foster care with compassion and dwindling financial resources,” said Tierney. “We are pleased to provide some relief with the help of the Federal Home Loan Bank of Chicago and double the donation thanks to the generous $100,000 matching grant from Mary Beth Nienhaus to the Fox Valley Humane Association.”

The Appleton-based animal shelter was re-opened to public visitation June 1 after being restricted to in-person animal care and virtual adoptions since March in response to the pandemic.

“We are grateful for this donation and assist from Community First Credit Union and the Federal Home Loan Bank of Chicago,” said Prey. “Donations like these will go a long way toward helping deal with additional costs incurred over several months due to the pandemic.”
