Collins Community CU Helps Family Hit by Fire

CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa–Collins Community Credit Union has brought the “people helping people” philosophy of the credit union movement to life by securing a $500 grant from the Iowa Credit Union Foundation’s disaster relief program.

Michelle Bradley, Assistant Member Service Consultant Manager at Collin’s Iowa City branch, assisted a member in securing the $500 grant from the Iowa Credit Union Foundation’s disaster relief program after a house fire caused significant damage to a member’s home.

The family was displaced following a house fire in December 2016.   “I read an article about another family receiving a grant from the ICUF.  I was moved by this family’s plight and decided to locate more information on how we could help to get them get back on their feet.” stated Bradley. “In early March, I printed out the application and approached this particular member to see if they would fill it out to start the process.  I mailed it to the Iowa Credit Union Foundation on his behalf and less than a week later I received a call from the Foundation stating our member had been approved for the grant.  I was ecstatic to be able to tell him he was receiving $500 to assist his family in this desperate time of need!  He was eligible simply because he is a member of a credit union.”

The member who benefited from Michelle’s efforts requested to remain anonymous.
