Collins Community CU Donates Funds to Camp Courageous.

CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa–Collins Community Credit Union presented a check for $1,835 to Camp Courageous, located in Monticello, Iowa. Through dedicated participation in the “Casual for a Cause” campaign and Community Action Committee (CAC), Collins employees are able to enroll in a $5.00 payroll deduction plan to wear jeans every Friday. These monies are then donated to organizations that work hard to make area communities a great place to live.

The CAC is Collins Community Credit Union’s peer-lead community involvement group that coordinates volunteer events and the distribution of funds for the Collin’s ‘Casual for a Cause’ program. The committee determines where the funds will be distributed based on employee applications that align with their four core focus areas for consideration; financial literacy, children’s charities, medical research, civic organizations and activities. In 2017, 12 different non-profits will benefit from this program.

Collins Community Credit Union employee Kelsey Melchert nominated Camp Courageous for the ‘Casual for a Cause’ program. “Camp Courageous is a special place for the campers as well as the families and the community it serves,” said Melchert. “The camp operates year-round and provides amazing experiences for campers of all ages and abilities. The fact that my co-workers chose to support and highlight Camp Courageous for ‘Casual for Cause’ is something that speaks as a true testament to their characters,” said Melchert.

When the check was presented at Camp Courageous at the annual  “Cruisn’ for Camp Courageous” event, Charlie Becker, Executive Director for the Camp, thanked everyone at Collins Community Credit Union for choosing Camp Courageous to benefit from their casual day. “The staff of Collins Community Credit Union have been long time supporters of the camp, from their participation in camp fund raisers to being regular volunteers. They are a super group who are exceptional at giving back to their community, said Becker.
