College Names Classroom After Pen Air FCU; Scholarship Awarded

PENSACOLA, Fla.– Pensacola State College (PSC) formally has named the Pen Air Federal Credit Union Classroom, Room #2051, at the Edward M. Chadbourne Library. Naming the room symbolizes the partnership between the college and credit union, and the room will host financial literacy classes and seminars to PSC students, Pen Air members and the entire community.

“There is more than a classroom name being dedicated today. Today is a celebration of Pen Air’s dedication to being a strong community partner with PSC, and our commitment to ensuring the importance of education, and financial education in our community,” said Stu Ramsey, president and CEO of Pen Air. “This classroom gives us the opportunity to enhance lives, and be trusted financial advisors.”

In November of 2016, Pen Air presented a gift of $100,000 to the PSC Alumni Association Endowed Scholarship initiative to assist students who otherwise could not attend the college. The gift of $100,000 coincided with the 100,000 student graduating from PSC that semester.

“In recognition of Pen Air’s generous endowed scholarship gift, we are honored to name the Pen Air Federal Credit Union Classroom located in the Edward M. Chadbourne Library,” said Dr. Edward Meadows, president of PSC. “Pen Air’s gift of $100,000, will enable area students to attend Pensacola State College now and in the future. It comes at a time of growth for our college and community, and will allow students to reach their full potential and to realize their educational goals. We are excited about our expanding partnership with Pen Air Federal Credit Union and applaud the mission and vision of this organization and its leadership.”

The credit union also announced that Taylor Carter from Pace, Fla. is a recipient of the scholarship endowment as she studies to achieve her Bachelor of Applied Science in Business Health Care Management. Carter graduated Cum Laude from PSC with her Associate of Arts in 2016, where she was involved in many collegiate organizations and worked in the library.

“I knew I had to pay for my courses and that taking classes depended on how much I saved,” said Taylor Carter, scholarship recipient. “All I could think was, “what am going to do about books and what about next term?” Then I received a call that changed everything. Some else believed in me, too. People whom I have never met created a way to help. I am so grateful to the Pensacola Alumni Association and Pen Air Federal Credit Union for making this possible for me.”
