RALEIGH, N.C. – Coastal’s longtime board member and outgoing Vice Chair, Richard S. Bloom, has retired after 44 years of volunteer service to the credit union. Mr. Bloom has been a pillar of the organization since first being elected to the board in 1973.
During most of his time with Coastal, Mr. Bloom served as Chairman of the Board. He has also served terms as Vice Chair and Secretary/Treasurer. During his tenure on the board, Mr. Bloom was instrumental in various committees, including: data processing, executive, insurance, nominating, pension plan, and personnel.
“Mr. Bloom’s presence will be missed,” said Coastal’s President and CEO, Chuck Purvis. “He’s been a guiding force in the organization for 44 of our 50 years, and his leadership and dedication to the credit union leave a legacy that will last for years, if not decades.”
Mr. Bloom was employed by IBM for 36 years as a programmer, programmer analyst, programming manager, test system engineering manager and mechanical design automation manager. He earned his MBA from Wake Forest University.
Coastal members elected Supervisory Committee Chair Jeff Dooley to fill the board vacancy from Mr. Bloom’s retirement. Board member Deron Rossi was chosen to assume the Vice Chair duties.
