RALEIGH, N.C. – Coastal Credit Union board chair Joan Nelson has been recognized as the 2021 CUES (Credit Union Executive Society) Distinguished Director.
The Distinguished Director award is given annually to a credit union volunteer who has “rendered exceptional service and made outstanding contributions to strengthen their credit union and the industry.”
For more than 25 years, Nelson has volunteered for and served on the Coastal Credit Union Board of Directors, which she has chaired since 2012. Her passion, dedication, and leadership to the Board has guided Coastal through periods of great success, and overcoming challenges along the way. Her leadership has earned her the Volunteer Lifetime Achievement Award from the Carolinas Credit Union Foundation, and in 2019 she was inducted into the African American Credit Union Coalition Hall of Fame.
