RALEIGH, N.C–As Coastal Credit Union closes in on its 50th Anniversary, it is publishing 50 Years of Sharing, a series of videos and written narratives illustrating different ways that Coastal has touched the lives of members, employees and the community.
The 50 Years of Sharing stories are published on Coastal’s microsite, http://bankbetter.org/50stories. The site already features more than 20 stories, with more being added daily as the credit union’s August 31st anniversary approaches.
As an example, member Candace Motely relied on Coastal to help her realize her dream of owning her own hair studio. Another member, Tommy Thompson, sought guidance when his partner died, leaving him in a state of uncertainty about being able to remain in his home. Others highlight recipients of the Coastal Credit Union Foundation's Power of Sharing event. There's even a now-humorous look back at Coastal's initial foray into online banking, from a time when it was among the first in the world to offer the service.
Coastal said it is sharing these stories with members and the public via social media and email.
Other 50th Anniversary celebration activities include special offers, branch promotions and giveaways, volunteer projects, and a member party at the Coastal Credit Union Music Park. Additionally, on August 31st, Coastal will announce details of a contest that will enable participants to nominate a deserving non-profit to win a $5,000 donation.
Coastal was granted a charter by the National Credit Union Administration on August 31, 1967, initially as the IBM Raleigh Employees Federal Credit Union. Through five decades, the credit union has grown to now serve more than 236,000 employees and members of 1,700 organizations.
