MILWAUKIE, Ore.–Clackamas Federal Credit Union has made a $15,000 donation toward wildfire relief, with $10,000 to the Red Cross Northwest Response Fund and $5,000 to Clackamas Emergency Services Foundation.
To date, Red Cross has provided over 5,861 shelter stays, 30,393 hotel stays, 1,477 safe and well registrations, and served over 84,852 meals in response to wildfires in our region.
The Clackamas Emergency Services Foundation donation is helping those in Clackamas County who lost their homes, personal belongings, or needed to evacuate, and will support first responder agencies and other community groups helping during the fires, the credit union said.
“This devastation hits very close to home,” said Aaron Goff, Clackamas FCU CEO. “In our own community, over 100,000 acres have burned. Many of our members, friends, family, and neighbors have lost or been displaced from their homes or live in areas that are still impacted. Our hearts go out to everyone suffering either directly or indirectly by these fires. Clackamas is here to help members, staff, and our community through this devastating crisis.”
Clackamas is also delivering care packages to members impacted by the fires, which include towels, socks, and blankets. Clackamas also dramatically lowered rates on RV and auto loans to help those who need temporary shelter or a new vehicle, and is offering an Emergency Relief Loan to members directly affected by wildfires to help provide security during an uncertain time.
“We have heard many stories about the community coming together during this time of need. Stories about strangers providing shelter for strangers and their pets. Stories about people putting themselves in harm's way to help move livestock or chase an unruly alpaca,” said Goff. “Stories about neighbors coming together to dig fire lines and volunteers feeding evacuees. Acts of kindness like these can truly make a difference. Thank you to those of you who have taken time to help a neighbor, a friend, or a stranger. The resiliency of our community both gives us hope and inspires us.”
