VIRGINIA BEACH, Va.– While battling a brain tumor, 5-year-old Macie McManon dreamed of the day she could play outside again – swinging, sliding and climbing her way to freedom and fun. Thanks to the expert Roc Solid builders and a $75,000 grant this year from Chartway Federal Credit Union’s We Promise Foundation, Macie’s dream came true.
Macie took a ride in a limousine to the Virginia Marine Science Museum, while volunteers from the Roc Solid and We Promise Foundations worked to build her a custom play set. The playful five-year-old was smiling from ear-to-ear when she returned home to a surprise fortress in her backyard.
The We Promise Foundation said it is honored to have partnered with the Roc Solid Foundation since 2010, donating more than $170,000 to providing the gift of play to children battling cancer.
“Because of organizations like We Promise, we can focus on what we do best, which is building hope for kids with cancer. It is a great partnership, and we are incredibly grateful for their support," said Eric Newman, founder and Chief Play Officer of Roc Solid Foundation.
