VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. – During a season known for its magic and merriment, Chartway Federal Credit Union and its divisions of HeritageWest and SouthWest Community Credit Unions partnered with its employees and members to collect a record number of toys to support the Marine Corps’ Toys for Tots program: 4,183 items for children in its communities.
With a goal to collect 3,200 toys, the credit union invited members and employees to drop off donations in colorful collection boxes located at its branches in Virginia, North Carolina, Rhode Island, Florida, Texas, and Utah. Through these efforts, the Chartway family of credit unions was able to exceed its goal by nearly 1,000 new, unwrapped toys.
“It’s an absolute honor to have the opportunity to work alongside people who care for our credit union family and our communities as much as they do,” said President & CEO Brian Schools. “These results reflect our generosity of spirit – a culture rooted in helping others, financially and charitably. Our employees and members have much to be proud of.”
In addition to supporting the Toys for Tots Drive, Chartway and its divisions made contributions to several other charities throughout the year, including the Samaritan House, the Salvation Army, and the American Red Cross, among others.
The organization’s charitable arm – the We Promise Foundation – also raised nearly $900,000 this year through fundraisers including its Diamonds in the Sky Gala and Charity Golf Classic – to make dreams come true for children battling life-threatening illnesses.
Below, Chartway’s President & CEO, Brian Schools, was humbled by everyone who made this year’s Toys for Tots drive a historic success. Altogether, Chartway Federal Credit Union and its divisions of HeritageWest and SouthWest Community donated 4,183 toys for children in need this holiday season.
