VIRGINIA BEACH, Va.–Chartway Federal Credit Union’s We PromiseFoundation hosted two inspiring events to raise funds that will “bring joy, hope, and smiles to children facingmedical hardship or illness.”
Thanks to the generosity of sponsors and supporters, the 14th Annual WePromise Foundation Gala and 21st Annual Charity Golf Classic raised nearly $700,000.
The 14th Annual We Promise Foundation Gala was held at the Chartway Arena in Norfolk, Va., with an elegant evening with a magical theme that included an interactive performance by award-winning illusionist and Virginia Beach native, Krendl. LPGA golfer Brooke Pancake also attended theevening alongside 18 We Promise heroes: children whose dreams have come true thanks to funds from thefoundation.
The night also included a silent auction, a three-course dinner, and a rousing live auction. The silent and live auctions gave guests the chance to bid on unique items, including a Tom Petty guitar, a three-day trip to New York City to enjoy Broadway shows, jewelry from Diamonds Direct, handmade pottery pieces made by We Promise children, and much more.
The following day, a full flight of golfers teed off with professional Pancake at one of the most well-regarded golf outings in the area: the 21st Annual Charity Golf Classic held at Broad Bay Country Club in Virginia Beach. Golfers and guests were joined by We Promise heroes who arrived by limousineand received cheers and high-fives from sponsors and volunteers. They also had the opportunity to cruisearound the course on golf carts – learning from participants how to hold an iron and sink a putt.
"The We Promise Foundation is truly a remarkable foundation that leaves a positive footprint on the hearts of the families and communities they touch,” said Pancake. “I love being able to use my love of the game as an outlet to meet the wonderful people behind such an amazing cause. And now being a mother, seeing the smiles on the children's faces pulls on my heartstrings that much more! The world is that much better because of the wonderful people behind this foundation."
“We truly cannot thank our outstanding sponsors and supporters enough for everything they do for We Promise,” said Karen Lane, executive director of Chartway’s We Promise Foundation. “It is because of their generosity that we can raise funds that bring joy, hope, and smiles to children facing medical hardship or illness. To see these kids having fun and inspiring our supporters with their unforgettable stories makes these events so very specialfor everyone involved.”
Since 1999, the credit union’s We Promise Foundation has raised more than $11 million and partnered with companion charities, sponsors, and contributors to provide the financial support needed to make dreams and wishes come to life for children facing medical challenges.
