VIRGINIA BEACH, Va.– Chartway FCU has awarded each of eight student members with $3,000 scholarships.
The Directors’ Memorial Scholarship, an ongoing programcreated in 1989, has annually awarded scholarships tostudent members pursuing collegiate studies. Since itsinception, the program has awarded nearly $350,000 to student members.
This year’s recipients were selected based on need, activities, academic performance, an essay, and a letter of reference, including:
- Ava Van Moorlehem (Utah) – Brigham Young University, Utah
- Elise Villanueva (Virginia) – Virginia CommonwealthUniversity
- Jaylee Montague (Utah) – Utah Valley University
- Landon Gumucio (Utah) – Southern Utah University
- Gracee Dalton (Utah) – Weber State University
- Ryan Saal (Virginia) – Eastern Virginia Medical School
- Katelyn Gudenau (Texas) – Dallas Baptist University
- Onesimo Banda (Texas) – University of Kentucky
A strong supporter of education, Chartway said it further invests in students through a contemporary internship program, its Student-Run Credit Union program operating in four Norfolk, Va., public high schools, and through financial literacy and education.
The credit union also supports its communities by sponsoringevents and programs, serving on a wide range of industry andtrade association committees, partnering with local chambergroups, leading legislative efforts to advocate for financial issues, and providing charitable grants through its We Promise Foundation, which has raised more than $12 million to bring joy,hope, and smiles to children facing medical hardship or illness.
