Charter Oak Receives Philanthropist of the Year Award

WATERFORD, Conn.–Charter Oak Federal Credit Union has received the Philanthropist of the Year Award from The Chamber of Commerce, Windham Region for its many contributions that directly benefit local communities, non-profits and charitable groups across eastern Connecticut.

“Charter Oak strongly believes in helping all the communities that we serve in New London and Windham counties, so we're honored that the Windham Region Chamber has recognized our community giving efforts that directly benefit these communities and their residents,” said Brian A. Orenstein, Charter Oak’s President and Chief Executive Officer.

Charter Oak was honored for its philanthropic efforts during the Windham Region Chamber’s Annual Awards Dinner & Ceremony held on May 23rd at the Willimantic Elks Lodge. The Chamber's Philanthropist of the Year Award is given to an individual or institution that provides consistent selfless giving to other organizations, charities or causes in their communities through financial contributions, participation and leadership activities.

Since 2009 when it was established, Charter Oak’s Community Giving Program has awarded nearly $2 million in New London and Windham counties through a broad range of grants, sponsorships, and scholarships as well as extensive community outreach activities in both counties.

Over the past three years, Charter Oak has awarded nearly $270,000 in scholarships to high school and college students in New London and Windham counties, benefitting over 130 students in eastern Connecticut. In addition, this past year Charter Oak unveiled its "$100,000 in 100 Days" Matching Gifts program that benefited over 200 non-profits and charitable groups.
