Charter Oak FCU's Matching Gifts Program Distributing More Than $400k

WATERFORD, Conn.–The Charter Oak FCU Matching Gifts Program is distributing $400,000 to more than 250 charitable organizations this holiday season.

Charter Oak said it and its members have raised nearly $3 million since 2016 through this annual initiative to give back to the community.

“Based on the volume of generous donations from Charter Oak members this year, Charter Oak’s Matching Gifts pledge of ‘Which comes first? $200,000 or 100 days,’ was met in 48 days, easily surpassing last year’s record of 70 days,” the credit union said.

Donations to nonprofits across the region are dispersed in varying amounts. Organizations receiving the largest gifts this year include Recovery Twelve Solution, $14,500; Terri Brodeur Breast Cancer Foundation, $13,475; Wheeler Library, $10,450; and Friends of Chikumbuso, $9,700, the CU said.

“Our members’ generosity speaks volumes about the sense of community we all share and the level of commitment to keeping our region strong, vibrant, and diverse,” said President and CEO Brian A. Orenstein. “This combination of member and Charter

Oak Federal Credit Union funds will be distributed across a broad spectrum of vital agencies from healthcare and family-centered charities to cultural and educational organizations.”

Charter Oak FCU said it matched 782 donations with 622 of those donations given to New London and Windham counties and benefitting local food pantries, regional food centers, housing programs, educational assistance and more.
