Charter Oak FCU Awards 9 Grants

WATERFORD, Conn.– Charter Oak Federal Credit Union’s Community Giving Grant Program funded nine grants totaling $32,000 in its first quarter.

Grant recipients included High Hopes Therapeutic Riding,  Little Angels Program, Madonna Place, Falcon Music Boosters, Salt Marsh Opera, S.T.E.P.S., Inc.,and Norwich Human Services. Awards ranged from $500 to $3,000. 

In 2013, the credit union pledged $50,000 each to the Regional Community YMCA located in Putnam, and Lawrence + Memorial Hospital’s Cancer Center located in Waterford. The final grant payment for each gift was made in March 2017 and totaled $20,000.

Sponsorships are also an important part of the Charter Oak’s Community Giving Program and are reviewed on a monthly basis. Notable sponsorships funded during the first quarter include the Denison Pequotsepos Nature Center’s Celebrate Earth event; the Visiting Nurse Association of Southeastern Connecticut, Inc.’s Nightingale Awards; and the Niantic Bay Boardwalk 5K.

Charter Oak said it has become a valuable resource in the community for local non-profits. Its headquarters in Waterford, Connecticut, features a community room that can accommodate up to 150 attendees, and is often used by local non-profits. A second, smaller community room is located within the credit union’s Mystic Branch and can accommodate up to 20 attendees. Both community rooms are available to local non-profits and community organizations.
