WATERFORD, Conn.– Charter Oak Federal Credit Union awarded $40,000 in grants in late-July to organizations throughout eastern Connecticut.
“Significant contributions were made this past quarter to some impressive organizations,” said Brian A. Orenstein, Charter Oak’s president and Chief Executive Officer. “The community at large will benefit from the programs and initiatives that we have chosen to fund.”
Charter Oak awarded 10 grants, ranging from $1,000 to $10,000. Recipients were the New London Rotary Foundation, Connecticut Humane Society, Eastern Connecticut Community Gardens Association, Eastern Connecticut Workforce Investment Board, Inc., New London Education Foundation, The Arc of Quinebaug Valley, The Furniture Bank of Southeastern Connecticut, Gemma E. Moran United Way/Labor Food Center, the USS Groton Sail Foundation, Inc., and the Thames River Heritage Park Foundation.
“The organizations we chose to support this past quarter are striving to improve the community,” said Orenstein. “With the funds in hand, they are one step closer to furthering their mission.”
To encourage a philanthropic movement throughout New London and Windham counties, Charter Oak said it has reinstated its Matching Gifts Program to donate $100,000 in 100 days to the charities most meaningful to its members. Through this program, the credit union will match donations, up to $500, made by its primary members.
