GREENSBORO, N.C.– Carolinas credit unions were a sponsor and major supporter of the two-day Duke Children’s Radiothon, the premier fundraiser for Duke Children’s health network, one of the 170 Children’s Miracle Network (CMN) hospitals.
Over the course of two days, the MIX 101.5 crew shared the remarkable stories of past and present patients while encouraging listeners to pledge donations for the kids who can’t wait. All the money raised will help fund patient care through the Duke Children’s medical and surgical programs.
Typically, the event is held at the Duke Children’s Hospital and credit union staff volunteer for shifts on the phone bank. However, due to social distancing and pandemic guidelines, this year’s radiothon was broadcast directly from the MIX 101.5 studio with no in-person volunteer positions.
The following credit unions sponsored the radiothon under the name of Carolinas Credit Unions and contributed a collective $4,000 in donations:
- Acclaim Federal Credit Union
- Bragg Mutual Federal Credit Union
- Fort Bragg Federal Credit Union
- RTP Federal Credit Union
- Vizo Financial Corporate Credit Union.
This year’s event raised $397,227.42. Over the past 26 years, the radiothon has raised more than $18 million for Duke Children’s.
“The COVID-19 pandemic has overshadowed almost everything that happened this year, but the truth is that the kids at Duke Children’s who suffer from life-threatening illnesses and injuries still need specialized care, and that’s why our support for the 2020 radiothon was more important than ever,” said Erin Doan, administration and community relations director for Vizo Financial. “It was an incredibly powerful message to see brought to life through the patients’ stories, as well as the dedication and commitment of those who pledged donations. Carolinas Credit Unions were proud to be part of such an event and we look forward to participating in next year’s radiothon.”
