COLUMBIA, Md.–The credit union community is being invited to help decide who wins the Miriam Rivera Lieb Emerging Leader Award from the Maryland and DC Credit Union Association. Through May 25, voting is open to select a favorite video from the three finalists selected by a panel of judges.
Harnessing the power of video, Ashley Beach Reid from SECU, Horacio Garcia-Korosec from Del-One FCU and Travis Lane from DOLFCU, pitch their ideas on how credit unions can better position themselves as the best financial choice for consumers.
The Emerging Leader Award is presented by the MD|DC Credit Union Association and honors the legacy of Miriam Rivera Lieb, who was a passionate advocate and leader in the credit union movement.
“Mimi,” as she was known to her credit union colleagues, served credit unions for more than three decades before retiring in 2007 after 24 years as CEO of Transportation Federal Credit Union, the association reported.
“She believed that credit unions should reflect the core principles of the movement – people helping people, and she embodied those principals in her service to the movement and as a mentor to other credit union leaders. The Emerging Leader Award recognizes a young professional who shares Mimi’s dedication to making a difference in peoples’ lives, and has demonstrated the potential to be a leader,” the Association said.
The final phase of the competition is June 5, 2018 when the finalists present their ideas at the MD|DC Credit Union Association’s Annual Meeting & Convention. Attendees will vote on the presentations and a winner will be decided based on a combination of judges’ evaluations, online voting and votes cast by conference attendees.
What The Winner Receives
The winner receives a professional development package, sponsored by CUNA Mutual Group, worth up to $5,000 and includes:
- Executive coaching
- Conference scholarship (choice of select CUNA Conference donated by CUNA or MD|DC Credit Union Association’s Annual Conference)
- Airfare and accommodations to visit CUNA and CUNA Mutual Group headquarters in Madison, Wisconsin
- Ad Hoc member of the MD|DC Credit Union Association board of directors
- Lunch with CUNA president/CEO Jim Nussle and MD|DC Credit Union Association president/CEO John Bratsakis
