CU Of America Donates $30K to Charities

WICHITA, Kan.–Credit Union of America (CUA) has increased its charitable donations and has chosen to assist three additional groups this holiday season with donations totaling over $30,000.

“Our board of directors, volunteers, and staff recognize the increased need for food, clothing, and personal items due to the COVID-19 pandemic,” said CEO Frank Shoffner. “We strive every day to make a difference in our members’ lives and with these donations we can make a difference in the lives of our community neighbors that are struggling like never before.”

CUA presented $25,000 to the Kansas Food Bank, half of which will go to providing Food 4 Kids weekend backpacks. The remaining $12,500 will be allocated as needed to food boxes for seniors, mobile pantries, and congregate meal sites.  Cargill is providing a match of $12,500 to CUA’s Food 4 Kids donation.

A check was also presented to HumanKind Ministries for $5,000 to assist with Operation Holiday, which provides for basic needs and toys to area individuals and families.

Additionally, CUA has provided $2,500 to the McKinney-Vento project at Wichita Public Schools.  McKinney-Vento assists students in accomplishing their educational goals though they are in a transitioning phase of home life, specifically, students’ families are homeless and either living in cars, outside, or moving from house to house between families or friends.  Students are helped with sleeping bags, blankets, gloves, hats, etc. and assistance with food.  There are approximately 800 students in the program.
