CAP COM FCU Donates $50K to Food Bank

ALBANY, N.Y.–CAP COM Federal Credit Union and its charitable giving arm, the CAP COM Cares Foundation, have announced a $50,000 donation to the Regional Food Bank of Northeastern NY.

The support has been provided to help alleviate hunger needs in the Capital Region in the wake of coronavirus pandemic, the credit union said. The Regional Food Bank heavily depends on funds to meet the growing demand to feed children, seniors, and families.

Across 23 Capital Region counties, the organization is receiving an unprecedented number of requests for assistance in the midst of the COVID-19 crisis. CAP COM’s $50,000 gift to the Regional Food Bank is in addition to the $450,000 slated for donation by the CAP COM Cares Foundation to hundreds of community organizations this year.

“We’re thankful we can direct assistance to Capital Region communities impacted by Coronavirus and keep delivering on our mission to serve,” said President/CEO Chris McKenna. “We know that children out of school, seniors, the unemployed, and so many others face food insecurity as a result of COVID-19 – and we’re committed to help. Families already on a limited budget are facing even more challenging circumstances. The Capital Region is fortunate to have organizations like the Regional Food Bank alleviating hunger on a grand scale and preventing food waste.”

“CAP COM has been a wonderful friend and supporter of the Regional Food Bank for many years,“ added Mark Quandt, Executive Director, Regional Food Bank of Northeastern New York. “Now that the need for emergency food assistance is greater than anything we have ever experienced, CAP COM has responded with major funding to help us meet those needs. Their donation will enable us to feed thousands of people who are struggling at this difficult time – children missing school meals, parents out of work, and seniors who can’t safely leave their homes.  We are deeply grateful for CAP COM’s generous support.”

In addition to the donation to the Food Bank, CAP COM is vowing to support many community partners and nonprofits immediately by participating in fundraising “non-events” throughout the year. Needs are at an all-time high right now, so CAP COM said it plans to allocate nearly $35,000 in the next few months to partners most in need.

“As much as we love celebrating the great work of our non-profit partners at their beautiful events – we’re looking forward to having our funds go directly to those same organizations in a more immediate and direct way,” stated Susan Fogarty, chief relationship officer with CAP COM. “We are grateful for the opportunity to give back to so many partners in need during these uncertain times.”

Part of CAP COM’s allocated $35,000 will go towards the American Red Cross Eastern New York Region. In lieu of their Fire and Ice Gala, CAP COM was able to send over its sponsorship dollars and “secure their table” for the non-event fundraiser.
