ALBANY, N.Y. – CAP COM Federal Credit Union and its charitable giving arm, the CAP COM Cares Foundation, have announced the winners of the CAP COM Cares Foundation Infrastructure Grant Initiative, which awarded $100,000 to 20 Capital Region nonprofit organizations.
The announcements and presentations were made at CAP COM’s headquarters.
The CAP COM Cares Foundation had an original goal of dedicating $50,000 to help support the nonprofits’ missions, awarding 10 organizations with a $5,000 grant, but after more than 60 applications were submitted, the Foundation’s board made the recommendation to award an additional 1- grants and $50,000.
Remarks were made by CAP COM’s President and CEO, Chris McKenna, Chief Relationship Officer Susan Fogarty, Director of Community Engagement Becky Daniels, Community Impact Manager Paige Rueckert, and Jennifer Wuerz, executive director of Family & Child Services of Schenectady

The credit union said its Infrastructure Initiative program formalizes the CAP COM Cares Foundation’s commitment to be a strong community partner and support projects that nonprofits often find difficult to fund. Some examples of projects that inspired the initiative include building repairs, the installation of a septic system, computer software updates and equipment funding.
“These projects are vital for organizations to serve their constituents but can be delayed or unaddressed due to a lack of resources,” the credit union said.
