Bay FCU Announces Leadership Program Grads

CAPITOLA, Calif.— Bay Federal Credit Union announced the 10th class of the credit union’s leadership program, BayFed University, has held its graduation ceremony.

BayFed University, a leadership program in partnership with Cabrillo College Supervisory Academy, has been offered to up-and-coming Bay Federal managers and supervisors since the spring of 2014. The program incorporates the dynamic 12-week Cabrillo College Supervisory Academy curriculum along with a strategic project that contributes significantly to the credit union’s business initiatives and celebrates the culture of Bay Federal.

“This class was unique, as they completed the Cabrillo curriculum before the pandemic hit,” the credit union said. “They realized that the initial project they had initially developed needed to be significantly altered due to the shelter-in-place order. With many employees working remotely, they got together to come up with a new idea that would contribute to the new hybrid workplace environment that so many organizations have adapted to.

“With in-person trainings heavily restricted, organizations now have to rely heavily on virtual events and online courses. Using this precedent, the class developed an idea to enhance the Bay Federal culture with a library of instructional videos to supplement their documented processes. This new program, called BayFed Productions, allows for idea submissions from Bay Federal employees.”

“I am so proud of BayFed University Class 10, and the way they rose to the occasion and navigated a course through uncharted waters,” said Carrie Birkhofer, president and CEO of Bay Federal. “The excitement from their project idea has made waves through the organization, and I can’t wait to see how this new program will continue to help us provide the best internal and external member service possible.”

The six graduates from BayFed University Class 10 are:

  • Neal Engelhaupt, Technology Senior Service Desk Specialist
  • Denise Gomez, Watsonville Branch Member Services Supervisor
  • Evelyn Gonzalez, Watsonville Branch Service Manager
  • Angela Harden, Facilities Assistant Manager
  • Gerry Mendoza, Member Service Center Group Lead Specialist
  • Cristina Ramirez, Freedom Branch Lead Financial Services Officer
