COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo.-- Aventa Credit Union sponsored and took part in the Waldo Waldo 5K. As part of the sponsorship, Aventa had a booth at the event where participants learned about Aventa Credit Union, spun the wheel for prizes, played a guessing game and received other free goodies. Twenty-two Aventa associates, dressed up as Waldos and Wendas, also participated in the 5K.
The Waldo Waldo 5K raises money for local community needs, especially supporting natural disaster and fire recovery efforts, outdoor activities and trails and open space maintenance in Colorado Springs and surrounding areas.
“This event is a perfect fit for us. We serve the Colorado Springs Fire Department and since they were essential in fighting the Waldo Canyon and Black Forest fires, this event gave us the opportunity to give back and help preserve the land they helped fight for, “said Karin Kovalovsky, Vice President of Marketing and Corporate Communications.
Separately, AventaCares, the charitable Foundation of Aventa Credit Union, delivered toys, clothing, and holiday dinners to families in need as part of their Christmas for Kids program. Five families were selected and represented each of Aventa’s service areas: Colorado Springs, Pueblo, Center, Crestone and Saguache. Each family selected had undergone financial hardships in the 2014 calendar year and were members of Aventa Credit Union. “Seeing the impact we made in the lives of these families was incredible. To know that we helped them in what would have been an otherwise hard time of year, is what makes our Christmas for Kids program so special,” said Julie Gwisdalla, AventaCares Foundation board member. “The smiles on the faces of these families reaffirms the AventaCares misson which is to enhance the quality of life for our families, friends and neighbors in the communities in which we live and serve.”
