CHELSEA, Ala.–Avadian Credit Union partnered with Forest Oaks Elementary School to teach kids the value of saving money.
To kick off the 2017-2018 school year, the teachers and administrators of Forest Oaks Elementary decided to turn a typical school fundraiser into a financial learning experience for their students. With Avadian's help, a coin-drive fundraiser became a hands-on savings lesson for the students.
Avadian introduced the students to their Kids Savings School program and held sessions on the importance of saving money. To help the kids with their fundraising initiative, Avadian donated individual piggy banks so each student could collect and save money for the drive. In just five days of the students working and saving, they met their goal and saved/raised a total of $15,000. All funds raised will go to purchase a brand new mobile Chrome cart with 30 chrome books for their 3rd grade wing.
“The Forest Oaks Elementary PTO would like to thank the school’s administration for all their support during our fundraiser and Avadian Credit Union for the piggy banks distributed during registration confirmation, and, most of all, the Forest Oaks Elementary Family and Friends who donated their money to this wonderful event. Without all of their support, we would not have made our goal,” said Sandi Blakely of the Forest Oaks Elementary PTO.
"Most of the time we are asked by various local schools and organizations to make a monetary donation to their cause. We feel we can make a bigger impact by offering financial education. When we were approached by Forest Oaks, we saw an opportunity to help them financially and provide the kids with a valuable experience they can draw from as they grow and learn more about money," states Stanton Davis, Senior Vice President of Marketing for Avadian Credit Union.
