Andrews Federal Sponsors Hands-On Effort to Create Welcoming Spaces In Fort Washington

SUITLAND, Md. – Andrews Federal Credit Union recently created welcoming spaces in Fort Washington, Maryland through its sponsorship of the Fort Washington Forward Community Bench Building & Painting Project.

This hands-on initiative was designed to enhance public spaces, support local youth engagement, and strengthen community connection. Through Andrews Federal’s sponsorship, the community purchased six benches to be assembled and placed throughout the Fort Washington area. The benches were built and painted by community volunteers during the Fort Washington Fall Festival in October.

The completed benches are being placed in high-traffic areas throughout the area, so they can be used as a place of respite during the course of a busy day. Each bench is labeled with a plaque that reads: “Donated by Andrews Federal: A place to rest, connect, and enjoy our community.”

According to credit union leadership, the benches are symbolic of the credit union’s desire to serve as a place of connection and support in the area. “With our new Fort Washington branch location opening soon, we are focusing on our connections and partnerships in the local community,” said Kenneth Orgeron, President and Chief Executive Officer for Andrews Federal Credit Union. “The bench project gave us an opportunity to fill a need in the area and to create a physical representation of our commitment to serving as a good neighbor and a supportive partner for our neighbors in the Fort Washington area.”

The bench initiative is one of Andrews Federal’s many initiatives to create community and provide support in the Fort Washington area. Throughout the past year, the credit union has hosted multiple events to connect the community, from offering free school supplies for families to providing holiday meals to donating thousands of dollars in grant funding for local needs. The credit union plans to open a new Fort Washington branch, its fifth in Prince George’s County, Maryland, in early 2026.
