Altura Provides Youth Leadership--Plus Peanut Butter

RIVERSIDE, Calif. – More than two dozen juniors and seniors from local high schools attended the Riverside Latino Network’s Youth Leadership Classes, which were sponsored by Altura Credit Union.

The annual six-week class is designed to give young Latino men and women the tools to become leaders in their own communities. Through the program, the students learn about their culture, history and society directly from accomplished members of the community. Among the presenters are those working in the criminal justice system, education, government, law enforcement and non-profit groups.

At right, Honorable Jorge Hernandez, Superior Court Judge for Riverside County shares his own story of struggles and triumph with high school students attending the annual Riverside Latino Network’s Youth Leadership Classes, sponsored by Altura Credit Union.

Separately, Altura Credit Union recently teamed up with Stater Bros Markets and KFROG radio to donate 100 jars of peanut butter and jelly to Hangar 385, a volunteer-driven hospitality service at March Air Reserve Base that assists military personnel deploying to or returning from war zones.

The familiar PB&J has been a tradition at Hangar 385 since 2004.

“A peanut butter and jelly sandwich provides a touch of home for our troops who are about to enter a war zone, or who are just returning from one,” said Mark Hawkins, Altura CEO. “Volunteers make the sandwiches for the military personnel who stop in at Hangar 385. Keeping the pantry stocked is just one small way we can show how much we appreciate the sacrifices our men and women in uniform make for our country.”

Altura has been collecting peanut butter and jelly forHangar 385 every few months during 2015.  “This time we reached out to Stater Bros and KFROG to boost our donation as the holidays approach,” Hawkins added. “We appreciate their quick response to ensure our troops receive a warm welcome at March Air Base.”
