Altura Awards Trip to Member; Sponsors Tamale Festival

RIVERSIDE, Calif.–Robert Lopez, an Altura Credit Union member from Moreno Valley, was the first winner in the credit union’s “Visit Your Dream Destination” giveaway, while separately, Altura also sponsored the Riverside Tamale Festival. The vacation giveaway is Altura’s way of thanking its members as it celebrates its 60^th Anniversary. Lopez, who has been a member a year, is thinking about taking his winning trip to Hawaii or Cancun.

Three finalists for the May drawing were set to open small suitcases to reveal the winner of the top prize.  Lopez was the first to flip open the suitcase, and was shocked to find he won. “It was hard to believe,” he said afterwards. 

“We have many activities planned this year to celebrate Altura’s 60^th anniversary,” said Jennifer Binkley, Altura president and CEO. “It is especially important to us that we recognize and thank our Members. This dream trip giveaway contest is something we thought everyone would enjoy.” Lopez won the first of four dream vacations Altura will award this year; one each quarter.

Separately, Altura CU was the title sponsor of the 5^th Annual Riverside Tamale Festival, which showcases the city’s rich Latino heritage. An estimated 20,000 people took part in this year’s festival.

The Riverside Tamale Festival is the signature event of the Spanish Town Heritage Foundation, which is raising funds to restore the Trujillo Adobe. Built in 1842, the adobe is a designated Riverside landmark and California site of historical significance. 

The festival attracts visitors from all over Southern California and features over 50 vendors, a beer garden, a lineup of entertainment and the signature contests for best vendor tamale, best homemade tamale and a tamale-eating round.
