Alpena Alocana Area CU Supports Community

ALPENA, Mich.–Alpena Alcona Area Credit Union has recently provided community support in a number of different ways.

The credit union hosted a Financial Reality Fair for students at Alpena High School.

AAACU partnered with Mrs. Sharp at Alpena High School to bring its Financial Reality Fair Program to her second and third hour Personal Finance Class. Students were able to select from various careers and then based on their career choice students were assigned a starting salary, a credit score, and a small savings account balance. The students then visited lifestyle stations that focused on expenses in life, such as housing, transportation, clothing, and food that they would need to fit within their monthly budget. In addition, students who selected careers that required college degrees were faced with student loans that impacted their monthly budget.

Strive For Five

Alpena Alcona Area Credit Union (AAACU) also made a donation to the Alpena Public School Strive for Five attendance Program.

Strive for Five encourages students and families within the Alpena district to establish positive routines of coming to school daily and on time. Students who attend school every single day and are on time each week are rewarded with a ticket for a chance to win a prize basket each month at their elementary schools Strive for Five assembly.

AAACU presented Meaghan Gauthier, director of K-12 Curriculum for Alpena Public Schools, and Carly Lixey, School Success Worker at Sanborn Elementary School, with a check for $150 to help support the Strive for Five Program.

AAACU also supports the program by providing prize baskets to the district elementary schools for the their monthly Strive for Five assembly.

Volunteering to Read

Alpena Alcona Area Credit Union (AAACU) team member Jarod Goodson, a co-op student employee, recently volunteered his time to read to Oscoda Elementary students in their classroom and during their scholastic book fair.

Jarod and his buddy, Clifford the Big Red dog, visited pre-school, kindergarten, first, second, and third grade students at Oscoda Elementary school.

Career Fair

Alpena Alcona Area Credit Union (AAACU) also participated in Hinks Elementary Career Fair.

Team members from the Alpena office locations recently visited Hinks Elementary School to give students in kindergarten through fifth grade a glimpse into just one of the many jobs here at the credit union. The team members showed students how to count money and created scenarios that the students would have to act out as if they were working at the credit union. The team members also went over the various denomination of bills and coins that the students would use while working at the credit union.
