Affinity FCU Introduces Itself to Yale Community

NEW HAVEN, Conn.–Affinity Federal Credit Union introduced itself to the Yale community by hosting its second “In Your Neighborhood” event in partnership with the Cooperative Credit Union Association.

The Cooperative Credit Union Association’s “In Your Neighborhood” events allow credit unions to introduce themselves to their communities by connecting with residents in places they frequent and treating them to a cup of coffee or something to eat.

Affinity’s event was held outside of Clark’s Family Restaurant located directly across the street from Affinity’s Yale Branch. Patrons of Clark’s were given discounts of up to $5 towards their ice cream or lunch for a few moments of time to discuss the credit union difference.

“Affinity has been doing a lot within the Yale community, such as teaching financial education and bringing resources to our members,” said Bethany Cinque, Branch Manager of Affinity’s New Haven location. “This event gave us a more informal way to interact with community members and local businesses and was a way to bring more awareness to those who may walk past our branch daily and not know who we are just yet.”

Affinity recently completed a merger with NEA Credit Union and the “In Your Neighborhood” event gave its team members the opportunity to present themselves to the community.

“Being in a college town, the credit union philosophy and message seemed to really resonate with the locals who stopped by the table,” said Candice Nigro, vice president of strategic marketing with CCUA. “One patron even commented, ‘Why aren’t more people members of credit unions?’ Hopefully this event helps showcase the credit union difference and brings more awareness to Affinity.”
