ALPENA, Mich.–Alpena Alcona Area CU and its staff have been supporting numerous community initiatives. Among those efforts:
During December, team members from the Tawas and Oscoda Branch volunteered their time with The Salvation Army Tawas Extension.
“Team members were excited to ring bells to help support their Red Kettle Campaign. This year employees collected funds that will benefit families within Iosco County,” the credit union said.
AAACU also recently hosted a Financial Reality Fair for students at Oscoda Area Schools.
AAACU partnered with Oscoda Area Schools to bring the Financial Reality Fair Program to 8th grade students. Students were able to select from various careers and then based on their career choice students were assigned a starting salary, a credit score, and a small savings account balance.
The students would then visit lifestyle stations that focus on various expenses in life such as housing, transportation, clothing, and food. At those stations they then needed to figure out how they would fit the expenses into their monthly budget. In addition, students that selected careers that required college degrees were faced with student loans that impacted their monthly budget.
The credit union is offering the program through a partnership with the Michigan Credit Union Foundation.
Alpena Alcona Area Credit Union also recently sponsored Lincoln Elementary School’s December Strive for Five Assembly.
Strive for Five is a district wide reward program that encourages students to attend school each day without coming in late or leaving early. Students who are in school for the full five days each week earn one ticket toward a prize basket given away each month at a Strive for Five assembly.
At the December assembly, AAACU Kids Club Mascot Dollar Dog was in attendance with MSR Adam Degan to deliver the winning prize. Blaike Blaski a second-grade student won a winter themed prize basket.
