10 Students Win Scholarships from People Driven CU

DETROIT – Ten students received a financial boost toward their post-secondary education pursuits as People Driven Credit Union announced the winners of its 29thannual College Scholarship Essay Contest.

The credit union said it received 59 entries in this year’s contest, where $14,000 in scholarship funds were awarded. A panel of four judges reviewed the submissions based on the topic, “Write a message to yourself on the day before your first day as a high school freshman. What advice would you give yourself? And what question would you ask the future you on the day after your college graduation?”

“The advice and insight these students provided in their essays were creative and inspiring,” said PDCU President and CEO Renee DeMarco. “People Driven Credit Union is proud to offer our College Scholarship Essay Contest and thanks all the students who submitted entries. We also want to congratulate our scholarship winners and wish them the best in their educational endeavors.”

Students between the ages of 17 and 25 who are primary members on PDCU accounts and are planning to attend college during the 2019-2020 school year were eligible to participate in the essay contest. This year’s grant brought the total in scholarships awarded to PDCU members to more than $327,000 since its inception in 1991.
