U.K. Approves New Rules to Make it Easier to Seize Crypto Assets Tied to Terrorists
LONDON—The United Kingdom has approved new rules making it easier for law enforcement to seize crypto connected to terrorists.
The move comes as terror attacks tied to cryptocurrency are projected to quadruple, Pymnts.com reported.
“This addresses a gap in current counterterrorism legislation,” said Tom Tugendhat, the U.K. minister of state responsible for crime and terrorism regulation.
He added that the counterterrorism legislation will “importantly mitigate the risk posed by those that cannot be prosecuted under the criminal system, but use their proceeds stored as crypto assets to perpetrate further criminality,” Pymnts.com noted.
