ST. PETERSBURG, Fla.–PSCU is reporting that it and 12 of its credit unions have donated $150,000 to charities as a result of its “Spend and Give” campaign.
The campaign, created by PSCU’s Advisors Plus, provided members of PSCU CUs a way to support local businesses and give back to their credit union’s charity of choice. PSCU pledged to match funds raised. Ultimately, 11 charities were recipients of the funds.
“The COVID-19 pandemic has impacted and touched the lives of almost every credit union member, along with their family, friends and colleagues,” said Glynn Frechette, senior vice president, Advisors Plus at PSCU. “We are extremely proud to further provide support and hope to our Owner credit unions, their members and communities through our ‘Spend and Give’ campaign. The credit union philosophy of ‘people helping people’ has become even more important as we navigate the impacts of the pandemic, and we will continue to put this at the forefront of all we do at PSCU.”
The 2020 “Spend and Give” campaign ran in July and August. During the campaign, participating credit unions donated 1% of each transaction conducted by members using their credit union-issued debit or credit card to a charity of the credit union’s choosing. Credit unions recommended members order takeout from a neighborhood restaurant, tackle a home improvement project, pick up groceries and support local businesses through their purchases.
The nearly $150,000 raised was donated to organizations including Children’s Miracle Network Hospitals, Feeding America and local food banks, among other charities, PSCU said.
A ‘Win-Win-Win’
Among the participating CUs was Hadley, Mass.-based UMassFive College FCU, which raised $2,500 for The Food Bank of Western Massachusetts. With PSCU’s match, the credit union donated $5,000 to the organization, which paid for 20,000 meals for residents of the local community.
“PSCU’s ‘Spend and Give’ campaign was a win-win-win for our credit union, members and neighbors,” said VP-Marketing Craig Boivin. “We were extremely appreciative to PSCU for allowing us to choose an organization that is so vital to our community and close to our hearts. Throughout the pandemic, PSCU has provided us with a great deal of support, from this campaign to its COVID-19 resources page and regular transaction trends reports. We are so pleased to have found a partner like PSCU that truly cares about us.”
