HILO, Hawaii–HFS FCU here has broken ground on a new corporate headquarters building. The design/build on the project is being led by Chesterfield-Mo-based NewGround.
Designed to accommodate the credit union’s ongoing growth, the new two-story 20,155 square foot building will facilitate organizational growth in what NewGround described as “a future-proofed branded space,” designed to house additional staffing needs for at least the next 15 years.
Ground-level parking will be below the building, and work areas are positioned around the perimeter of each floor adjacent to large windows, allowing an abundance of natural light to flood the space, the company said. In addition, several shared conference rooms, training rooms, quiet rooms, men’s and women’s showers, staff lounge, storage, and a new board room with an adjacent kitchen are included in the design layout to enhance the overall employee experience.
Working with EHA, NewGround’s Honolulu-based design firm partner, NewGround said it will provide construction management services for the new facility. The design team also collaborated with HFS to select new furniture, featuring the latest ergonomic designs in workstations, task chairs, collaboration areas, seating, and contemporary colors and finishes, the company said.
Traditional Hawaiian Blessing
The commemorative groundbreaking ceremony included the traditional Hawaiian blessing on site grounds with NewGround Director of Construction Eric Preuss, Project Manager Casey Meighan, and Regional Vice President Tom White. The new headquarters is anticipated to be complete in late 2022.
