Fed Economist (and Storyteller) To Address Catalyst Economic Forum

PLANO, Texas–Federal Reserve economist (and sometimes storyteller) Thomas Siems has joined the list of presenters at Catalyst Corporate’s 40th annual Economic Forum, scheduled for October.

Siems is assistant vice president and senior economist at the Federal Reserve Bank of Dallas and has published more than 60 articles in various academic journals, books and Federal Reserve publications and is the National Association for Business Economics’ first two-time winner of the Edmund A. Mennis Contributed Paper Award.

“Sometimes Siems' writing carries weighty titles, such as Rethinking bank efficiency and regulation: How off balance-sheet activities make a difference,” Catalyst Corporate noted. “But he also knows how to keep it simple. Siems has authored five children’s picture books, including The Dangerous Pet, which poetically challenges the way the next generation thinks about debt. In the short book, a boy is tasked with taking care of an unusual green, furry pet, named Debt. The boy struggles to feed the pet, and mayhem ensues.”

Siems' more scholarly insights have received extensive attention from leading publications, including The Financial Times, The Wall Street Journal, and The Economist. In 2015, he delivered his first TEDx Talk on the “Wealth of Innovations.”

The Fed economist currently conducts economic and financial research on globalization, including how technology and policies impact productivity and economic growth. He is also a senior lecturer in the Engineering Management Information and Systems department in the School of Engineering at Southern Methodist University. Siems is active in the Fed’s economic education programs and has taught economics, statistics, finance and operations management at SMU, LeTourneau University and the University of Dallas.

Siems’ presentation will open the final day of the 2017 Economic Forum, which is set for Oct 2-4 at the Omni Mandalay Hotel in Las Colinas, Texas.
