LONDON—The U.K.’s armed forces are about to get their own credit union. The government is granting the charter in part to battle payday lenders, which prey on servicemen and women, as well as their families. An Armed Forces Bill has passed its final stage in the House of Lords, with plans calling for a credit union to be established by year-end 2014 or in early 2015.
