TORONTO--Co-operation among Ontario’s credit unions as a means towards guaranteeing the future success of the system emerged as the key theme during the Directors’ Forum here, where close to 130 board directors and industry leaders, representing over 35 credit unions and caisses populaires gathered for the two-day conference.
“Given the industry’s trend towards consolidation, we felt that addressing how CEOs, boards, regulators and credit unions work together toward becoming stronger and more sustainable, were relevant topics to discuss in today’s evolving credit union system,” said Tomo Matesic, Chair of the Directors’ Forum executive committee, in a statement.
According to organizers, an array of expert panelists, speakers and moderators from across Ontario, British Columbia and Manitoba, used real-life examples to showcase how their credit unions have effectively handled the ups and downs of mergers and acquisitions, enhanced their growth through new technologies, and are building greater awareness of the system and the co-operative movement as a whole.
Close to 30 board chairs also assembled to discuss how they can more effectively collaborate and contribute towards the future sustainability of their organizations.
