DARTMOUTH, Nova Scotia–Two credit unions here have agreed to merge after a previously announced merger that would have involved a third CU was rejected by members.
Members of East Coast Credit Union and Bergengren Credit Union voted in favor of the merger during a special meeting, with 80% of both credit union memberships voting in favor.
The continuing brand and name will be East Coast Credit Union and it will have 205 employees, 20 branches serving over 41,000 members and more than $650 million in assets.
In a press release, the credit union’s management said it does not anticipate any changes for the first 12 months in positions or branches.
An earlier merger that would have also included Sydney Credit Union was rejected in November.
