MONTEGO, Jamaica–With the new year, the merger of two credit unions here is complete, creating one CU that now serves 70,000 members. The Hanover Co-operative Credit Union and the Montego Co-operative Credit Union have become one entity that the organization said will benefit members with a wider variety of products and services.
With the merger also comes a new name, Gateway Co-operative Credit Union.
The members of the Hanover Co-operative Credit Union voted for the merger in February 2016 at their annual general meeting, and the membership of the Montego Bay institution voted for the union in June 2016.
