SURREY, U.K.—The U.K. Credit Union Foundation has named its award winners for 2013-14. Those being honored with Edward Filene Credit Union Awards for Excellence include:
- * A Single Benefactor to a Credit Union: Donald Urquhart, Capital Credit Union Ltd. Edinburgh.
- * A President, Board Chairperson, CEO or General Manager of a Credit Union: Eileen Halligan, Central Liverpool Credit Union Ltd., Liverpool.
- * A Juvenile Depositor scheme operated by the young people themselves under 11 years: Capital Credit Union Ltd., Edinburgh and Stockbridge Primary School.
- * Achieving Business Growth: Dragonsavers Credit Union Ltd, Treorchy, Wales.
- * Raising Funds (excluding share deposits) to develop the Credit Union: Medway & Swale Credit Union Ltd, Medway, Kent.
- * Engaging in Community Initiatives and Outreach: Ballyhackamore Credit Union Ltd., Belfast, N. Ireland.
- * Dispensing Money Management Education to entire “Common Bond” catchment: Prince Bishops Credit Union Ltd., Co. Durham.
- * Beacon Credit Union 2013/14: Capital Credit Union Ltd., Edinburgh.
The Joe Biden Awards For The Credit Union Development Educator Of The Year went to:
* From Asia - Roberta (Mely) Verano of Cebu City, Philippines.
Special Awards 2014:
- * A Lifetime Award for Exemplary Service to Credit Union & Co-operatives over many years: R.Hettiarichchi, CEO (retired), Asian Confederation of Credit Unions.
- * Most Travelled Development Educator, Lois Kitsch, National CU Foundation, U.S.
- * Motivator Of Africa Development Educator Programme 2014: Malcolm Ngouala.
Judges of the awards were Steve Johnson, AdviceUK; Nigel Fawcett (a previous Regulator) and Adrian Oldman, who when with the Unity Trust Bank was instrumental in getting that bank to pioneer the first Awards Ceremony in 2011. Overseas judges included Lois Kitsch, Nancy Johns and Michael Ray from the U.S., and Eli Zgonjanin Petrovikj of FULM Macedonia.
