NAPERVILLE, Ill.–The nation’s credit unions took to Twitter on Friday looking to go viral with the hashtag #ilovemycreditunion.
Credit union associations, employees and members all used the hashtag and showed their love by giving examples of what credit unions mean to them.
The effort was the brainchild of Tom Kane, president and CEO of the Illinois Credit Union System, which prior to the all-day tweet fest had made available, for free, numerous support and promotional materials to other leagues, credit unions, CUSOs and vendors with a goal of getting as many people involved as possible during the one-day effort and to drive greater awareness of CUs.
The campaign included a prize of $25,000 as a prize that was available to a league to be chosen at random from all participating state leagues that signed up at least five CUs in their respective state(s). The league, in turn, will now donate the funds to a Children’s Miracle Network hospital of their choice.
Kane was among those who shared a reason he loved credit unions, in this case, “Because they helped us get four kids through college!”
Among the others who appeared during the one-day effort was NFL Hall of Famer Steve Young, who is very involved with the Children's Miracle Network and who praised credit unions for the work they do.
