'Have to Be More Flexible'

HENDERSON, Nev.–A great deal has changed in terms of expectations of work and being in the office, according to one credit union CEO.

Bill Cheney, president/CEO at SchoolsFirst FCU in Santa Ana, Calif., shared his insights and forecast during an interview with  Susan Mitchell, CEO of Mitchell, Stankovic & Associates and founder of the Underground. “Even with our branch traffic at the same levels pre-pandemic, we will have to be more flexible. We will need to be the change,” said Cheney.

Other “Ideas into Action” pillars shared during the interview by Cheney include:

  • Listen to the Member. “Members will tell you what they need, and you need, to survive. Open channels. Create advisory board groups. Understand your full membership.”
  • Be the Change. The world is disrupted. Be the change rather than leading through the change. "There’s never been a better time to be a credit union," Cheney said.
