Xplore FCU Says It Will Close Offices for Juneteenth

NEW ORLEANS—Xplore Federal Credit Union said it will close its branches on Friday, June 18 in observance of Juneteenth, which commemorates the ending of slavery in the United States.

The credit union said the greater New Orleans area has a long history of preserving the history and significance of June 19, 1865; the date the last Confederate State abolished slavery.

“From visiting historic sites and research centers, to taking a moment to reflect on individual change and participation, we hope to encourage positive change in our communities,” stated Rafael Rondon, Xplore FCU president and CEO.

In 2020, Xplore FCU said it recognized Juneteenth as an observed company holiday, and will continue to do so as part of its diversity and inclusivity initiatives. It further noted New Orleans has many events in recognition of Juneteenth, and “employees are encouraged to take this time to learn, engage, and commemorate this historic day.”

In 2020 a number of other credit unions also announced they would close on Juneteenth.
