MADISON, Wis.–More than 750 credit unions raised nearly $1.5 million toward international development during 2017, while more than $200,000 was raised to help CUs hit by hurricanes in the Caribbean, according to the just-released annual report from the Worldwide Foundation.
The Worldwide Foundation, the philanthropic arm of the World Council of Credit Unions, further noted in its annual report that 2017 also saw the creation of 11 new sister societies within the Global Women's Leadership Network.
“Do Good. Do Global Good. That is our call to credit unions worldwide to partner with the World Council to provide financial empowerment and inclusion each and every day through our movement,” the Foundation said. “…Members are what matter in our business and their lives are improved through your generosity, care and concern for their access to more financial services, allowing them to have a brighter future.”
During 2017, credit unions around the globe made “significant strides in forwarding financial inclusion to more than 65 million members,” according to the Worldwide Foundation.
In all, 752 credit unions provided $1.45 million dollars in support of international credit union development, inclusion and empowerment, according to the Foundation.
