World Series Wager Has Barbecue Headed to DC

COLUMBIA, Md.–Staff at the Maryland and DC Credit Union Association will be enjoying some Texas barbecue while the Cornerstone CU League will replace its profile picture on media sites for 48 hours with the logo of the Washington Nationals following the team’s World Series victory.

The barbecue and profile pic are the result of a wager between Caroline Willard, CEO of the Cornerstone league—which serves Texas, Arkansas and Oklahoma–and John Bratsakis, CEO of the Maryland and DC Credit Union Association on the outcome of the World Series battle between the Nationals and the Houston Astros.

The Nationals won the series 4-3, the first time the home team lost each game.

MD|DC CUA staff members will now be enjoying barbecue from Hard Eight BBQ, as well as the Nationals’ logo replacing Cornerstone CUL’s profile pic on social media sites.

A ‘Touch of Class’

“We look forward to savoring the Nationals win with authentic Texas barbeque,” said CEO John Bratsakis. “The curly ‘W’ logo adds a touch of class to Cornerstone Credit Union League’s social media sites. Congratulations to our team in Washington for defying the odds and finishing the fight, and to the Astros for a hard-fought World Series.”

Added Willard, “Congratulations to the Nationals for winning the World Series and our Astros for an outstanding season. We understand the MD|DC Credit Union Association is eager for some authentic Texas barbeque. It’s a win for our credit union league if we can put our ‘people helping people’ philosophy to work by helping the Maryland and DC staff  get a taste of some real food!”
