World CU Conference Coverage: CEO from U.S. Now WOCCU Chair

SINGAPORE — During the World Credit Union Conference here, the World Council of Credit Unions announced its new board members and executive committee.

Steven Stapp, president/CEO of Unitus Community CU in Portland, Ore., has been elected as chair.

“Although I come from the U.S., I consider myself a global ambassador of credit unions – a servant of the people. World Council and the work of those that have gone before us have brought us together,” said Stapp during the meeting. “We must not forget that we drink the water from the well that others have dug, but now is our time to take this work forward. The challenge is before us and let us stand together and be counted. We have the world to show that financial cooperatives provide a path for prosperity and independence through a democratic process.”

There were no challenging nominations and all incumbent board members were re-elected for two-year terms, WOCCU reported.

The WOCCU 2018-19 executive committee now includes:

  • Steven Stapp, Chairman – USA
  • Rafal Matusiak, Vice Chair/Secretary – Poland
  • Diana Dykstra, Treasurer/Chair, Audit & Risk Management Committee – USA
  • Martha Durdin, Chair of the Governance and Elections Committee - Canada
