VIRGINIA BEACH, Va.–A woman who was tasered and shot at by police last week after authorities say she allegedly stabbed a credit union teller has appeared in court here.
Shontrina Fountain, 39, initially was scheduled to be arraigned one day earlier, but was uncooperative and could not safely be brought to the video arraignment area, according to Kathy Hieatt, a sheriff’s office spokeswoman. Fountain has also been charged with malicious wounding and assault on a law enforcement officer.
According to the Virginia Pilot, Fountain arrived in a wheelchair for her arraignment in General District Court, which was conducted on video. She was polite as she answered questions from Judge Teresa Hammons, the Pilot reported.
Fountain told the judge she had been under “the care of Virginia Beach Psychiatric” and would prefer to be housed there, the Virginia Pilot reported. The judge, however, said that was not an option and scheduled a bond hearing for next week. The judge also appointed a public defender to represent her.
As CUToday.info reported earlier, Fountain is accused of slashing a teller with a knife at a branch of Navy Federal Credit Union, then lunging at officers with a weapon when they stopped her car and tried to arrest her, according to police.
Although shots were fired in the pursuit, police said Fountain had not been shot. Police further said there was no robbery attempt. After being surrounded by police, Fountain refused to exit her car and was tasered twice. She then lunged at another officer who fired at her, before she was tasered for a third time.
